Autumn Wedding Invitations Are Fashionable

Did you know that September is the most popular month for weddings — and October is not far behind? You have all the advantages of nature’s beautiful backdrop, giving you the rich hues of autumn foliage and end of summer flowers. Plus in many parts of the country, the weather is still pleasantly warm — not as hot as midsummer (pity the men in their suits in July or August!) but still agreeable enough for you to have the widest choice, from bridal gowns to an indoor or outdoor wedding ceremony or reception.

If you’re planning a fall wedding, you’ve probably already started looking for ideas for your theme or design. You may also be thinking of tying it in to one of the holidays or festivals that take place at this time of year, such as Halloween. This will give you plenty of ideas for your invitations, from the color schemes to the autumnal motifs or images you may wish to include.

Here are some of the most popular ideas for fall themed wedding invitations, just to get you started. You can explore these ideas in greater depth on the different pages on our site as you narrow down your options.

Fall colors: when you think of fall, certain colors seem automatically to come to mind, such as brown, green, gold, or orange. Many autumn wedding invitations selections focus on variations of these colors. You can set off a deep, rich mocha brown card with lettering in gold or silver, for example, and accessorize it with gold or silver ribbon. Tie this in with similar colors in your RSVP and thank you cards and you have a beautifully cohesive design for all your wedding stationery.

Foliage motifs: given that it’s all about autumn, it’s not surprising that many fall invitations incorporate a leaf or leaves in their design. Sometimes it’s just a silhouette of a leaf, branch, or tree in a color that contrasts with the card stock. Alternatively, it may be a beautiful painting in muted tones on one side or at the top of the invitation layout, giving balance to the combination of the image and text. The green is often used for the leaf designs — but given that the colors of turning leaves are so spectacular at this time of year, you’ll also find rich red, gold and mahogany brown hues as well.

Images of nature: while leaf prints predominate, look for other rustic prints and designs that also convey the idea of autumn, the harvest, and other traditional decorations. This may be deer, birds, petals, pine cones, wreath designs, and similar. And if you are going for a Halloween theme, I’m sure you don’t need any suggestions about the imagery that suggests this festival!

Fall Wedding Invitation Printing Styles

As well as the theme, color, and design of your invitation, take a moment to think about the sort of printing you want to use — not just for the invites themselves, but also for the response cards, reception cards, place cards, and so on. Many people choose a heavy weight paper with a luxurious texture for such an important occasion as a wedding, and like a special type of printing to go with the refined nature of the paper.

Styles may include:

Pressed printing — sometimes called letterpress printing — lends a feeling of craftsmanship and artistry, and can result in high quality type definition. It takes a lot of skill, and conveys a sense of individuality and style. Letterpress printing has a long history that goes all the way back to the invention of the printing press, and has recently enjoyed something of a revival for high end signature purposes such as wedding invitations.

Thermography printing produces a raised type that’s made by mixing a special powder into the wet ink. It imitates the look and feel of engraved printing, and goes well with quality, embossed papers and a variety of different font or type styles.

Other printing styles: even though your heart may be set on a particular style of print or design, do shop around to get a sense of the variety of different invitations available. You may also be able to take advantage of sale prices, find good deals on cheap or discount wedding invitations — or even get new ideas you would never have thought of on your own.
